There are two inexpensive computer programs I currently can't live without.
Updated May 25th
1. Snagit - flexible image screen capture and editing that is hard to beat. $49 There is a 30 day free trial. This program can easily pay for itself. For example: Let's say that I know someone who wanted to purchase the Adobe Suite of programs and the best online price was $2,999. However, that same Adobe Suite costs $999 at the student/education price. Let's say that person took classes two years ago but that doesn't qualify him for the discount. Let's say he did a screen capture of his transcript using Snagit and that Snagit's Editor component has a feature that almost effortlessly allows him to change text and dates on the capture and that this function was used to change the dates of his school enrollment in classes from 2007 to 2010 making him 'eligible' for student discounts. Lets also say he ordered the Adobe suite from an online student discount store and that store wanted a fax or screenshot of a transcript showing current enrollment. Let's say the updated transcript was emailed and he got instant approval and the Adobe Suite shipped immediately at a savings of $2,000 on that one purchase alone. Let's say there are many similar uses, like 'updating' your tax returns that show income, or bank statements to show 'balances'. Did I mention that Snagit pays for itself multiple times over?
2. Updated May 25 Applian Replay Video Capture - Captures any video and sound on your screen in High Quality. No matter the source. No copyright protection can escape Applian. This program pays for itself. e.g. Here is but one way: Let's say I knew someone who rented some dvd's from the library or store but that she had to take her mother to the hospital and now wouldn't have time to watch them and return them to the store before having to pay late fees. Let's say she put the 2 1/2 hour dvd in her F:Drive of her computer, set the DVD to play, set the Applian software to record, set the timer for 2 1/2 hours, and set the quality for HD. When she got home she would have an exact duplicate, in High Definition of the video/audio on her hardrive. She would be able to return the rented video timely, and watch the movie from her hard drive once her mother has been well taken care of. If hard drive space is tight, she could copy/download the movie from her hard-drive onto a DVD disc and watch it a year from now. [Free version captures only up to 2 minute increments] For unlimited capture length - about$49. Actual Price $39
